Online Payment Methods

Paying your charges online is the fastest and easiest way to make a payment. Instructions outlining how to make an online payment, view charges, and grant Authorized User access are available on our WVU MyAccount Tutorials webpage.

E-Check (Electronic Check)

To use this method and bypass convenience fees, find the routing and checking account numbers online or at the bottom of your check.

Example (These 3 sets of numbers may appear in a different order on your check):

the bottom of an example check with a 9-digit routing number, account number, and check number

  • Your routing number is 9 digits in the middle of two of these symbols |:
  • The number of digits in your checking account number varies by bank, and it is to the left of the quotation symbol "
  • The check number in this line of digits should match the number in the upper-right corner of the check; do not include as part of your account number

Just like a paper check, e-checks can be returned for insufficient funds or if your account or routing number is incorrect, so be careful when you input your numbers. A $25 fee is assessed for returned checks/e-checks.

Credit or Debit Card

Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express are accepted (with a non-refundable 2.85% convenience fee). To avoid the convenience fee, consider paying online with an e-check, mailing a paper check, or delivering a check in person. If you're planning to pay with a debit card, using the e-check option instead can help you avoid the fee.

Before you get started with a card payment, make sure you know the daily limit on your card. Credit and credit/debit cards usually have a daily limit you cannot exceed, and will decline if you try to go over that limit. Make sure the amount you are paying plus the 2.85% convenience fee will not put you over your limit for the day. If your daily limit is too low, contact the card provider to request they increase your limit for the day.

The non-refundable convenience fee is assessed by our third-party processor, TouchNet® PayPath, not WVU.

You will receive an email confirming payment. It may take 2-3 business days to see a debit in your checking account or a charge to your credit card account.

Please note if parents or guests wish to make a regular online payment on their student's behalf, students must now grant them Authorized User access through the new WVU MyAccount platform, even if they already have existing proxy access to the student's billing information.

Tuition Payment Plan

WVU offers an interest-free payment plan to help you manage your budget by making smaller payments over a longer period. The earlier you sign up, the more time you'll have to pay and the smaller your installments will be. There is a $35 enrollment fee per semester. Visit our Tuition Payment Plan webpage for deadlines and instructions on how to sign up.

Learn about the Payment Plan

Payments for the Tuition Payment Plan must be made electronically through WVU MyAccount. The plan does not accept checks, 529 plans, other college savings plans, or international payments made through Flywire or TransferMate.

529 College Savings Plan

Many 529 College Savings Plans now have a digital distribution option with real-time payment tracking, which saves time and improves transparency. Check with your plan administrator to see if a digital distribution option is available. Each plan is different, so please contact your plan manager for instructions. Checks may be sent to the WVU Hub at the address referenced below.

If you wait too long to request funds from your 529 College Savings Plans and payment is received after the due date, you will be subject to late payment fees and other late payment consequences. Qualifying charges billed within a calendar year allow for funds to pay for that calendar year no matter the due date. Plan holders should request funds as soon as billing notifications are received for the semester to allow for processing time to meet the payment deadline. For tax purposes, charges billed within a calendar year will be included on the student's 1098-T for that calendar year.

Please note that 529s or other college savings plan payments cannot be used for the Tuition Payment Plan.
