Expected Aid or Payments Not Reflected on WVU MyAccount

There are various reasons why expected aid or payments may not be showing on your WVU MyAccount.

Most financial aid usually shows as a credit or anticipated payment toward your balance due as long as you have completed all the requirements for the aid. Visit our Checklists webpage to make sure you have completed all the steps necessary for your aid.

Review the appropriate sections below for other potential reasons or information specific to certain aid or payment types.

Enrollment

One of the most common reasons that aid you have accepted is not showing as a credit or anticipated payment on your WVU MyAccount is due to not meeting the enrollment requirements for the aid. Aid programs have enrollment requirements that must be met before the aid can disburse. Please note that credit hours for a course you are on a waitlist for do not count toward enrollment requirements for the semester.

  • Institutional scholarships, Mountaineer and WVU System Connection Scholarships, WVU Guarantee, the WV Higher Education Grant, and the WV Promise Scholarship require full-time enrollment before they can disburse.
  • Federal Subsidized, Unsubsidized, Graduate PLUS, and Parent PLUS loans and the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant require at least half-time enrollment.
  • The Federal Pell Grant and TEACH Grant usually pay out at a pro-rated amount based on hours enrolled.
  • The WV HEAPS Grant program requires less than full-time enrollment.

Please note that there are federal and state regulations regarding the courses a student takes and if those courses can be counted toward their enrollment requirements for federal and state aid eligibility.

Scholarships

WVU (Institutional) Scholarships

If your WVU scholarship is showing as accepted on your Financial Aid Information (via your WVU Portal) but is not listed as a credit or anticipated payment on your WVU MyAccount, this usually means you are not meeting enrollment requirements for the scholarship. All WVU undergraduate scholarships require that you enroll full-time. Your scholarship will not appear as a credit on your WVU MyAccount until you are registered for 12 or more credit hours per semester.

If you are an international student, your scholarship may be on hold until we confirm if you are being sponsored by a third party. You should receive notification to your MIX email (via your WVU Portal) requesting additional information.

Private or External Scholarships

If the payment from a private scholarship is not showing as payment on your WVU MyAccount, we have not received the payment yet. Once the payment is received, it usually reflects on your WVU MyAccount within one business day. So, if it is not showing as payment on your account, we have not received it. Contact the provider of the scholarship for information on when it was mailed and to ensure it was mailed to the correct address and included your full name and WVU ID number.

Loans

Federal Loans

If your Federal Direct Unsubsidized or Subsidized Loan isn't showing in WVU MyAccount, there are a few things to check:

  • Make sure you accept your loan
  • Complete all loan requirements
  • Ensure you are enrolled at least half-time in degree-pursuant courses

There may be additional requirements for Federal Graduate PLUS Loans and Federal Parent PLUS Loans.

Private loans vary by lender and may have different requirements.

Private Loans

Once a private lender approves your loan, they notify the institution so that we can certify that you are a student here and meet the requirements for the loan. It can take up to two business days for the institution to even receive the application to certify. Once our office receives the certification request, it is usually completed within three to five business days.

After your loan is certified, it can take up to two weeks for it to disburse as payment. Please keep in mind that the earliest private loans usually begin disbursing is around 10 days prior to the start of the fall or spring semesters.

PLUS Loans (Graduate and Parent)

In addition to the half-time enrollment requirement, there may be a few reasons why your PLUS loan is not showing.

  1. When you applied for the loan, did you submit your application to West Virginia University? It may seem like a strange question, but it is really easy – and common – for people to accidentally submit their PLUS application for WV State or WVU Parkersburg instead.
  2. Did you submit your application for the appropriate time frame? When applying, it should have been for the 2025-2026 aid year (for fall 2025 and spring 2026). If applying for the full aid year, the start and end dates should have been from August 2025 to May 2026.
  3. Did you complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) for the loan?

Other Aid or Payments

College Savings Plans (529, Prepaid Plans)

If the payment from your college savings plan, 529, or prepaid college plan is not showing as payment toward your balance due, we have not received the payment yet. These payments are often checks generated by your college savings plan then mailed to the institution, so it can take a while for them to be received. Checks are posted the same day that they are received, so if it is not showing as payment on your account, we have not received it. Contact your college savings plan manager or point of contact with questions about when the payment was mailed and to ensure it was mailed to the correct address and included your full name and WVU ID number.

Graduate Student Waivers

Departments must submit information on graduate waiver recipients to the WVU Hub. Once that information is received, a graduate tuition waiver will appear on your account. If there is no waiver on your WVU MyAccount, please download the list of waiver approvers by department and check with the appropriate approver to make sure the information was submitted to the WVU Hub. Once received by our office, it may take two to three business days for a credit to appear on your WVU MyAccount.

Graduate Assistants (GAs) are offered a student health insurance plan at no or reduced cost. Visit the GA Coverage website for more information, because there are various scenarios.

Other Third-Party Payments

If you are expecting a payment from a third party toward your balance due, it will not show as an actual payment until the payment is received from the third-party entity. Students who are officially being sponsored by a third party may see the sponsorship as an anticipated payment toward their bill if the third party has provided appropriate documentation to the WVU Hub. However, it will not show as an actual payment until the funds are received from the third party. For more information on third-party sponsorships, visit our Third-Party Billing webpage.
