WVU Pledge recipients must meet the following criteria to continue to be eligible for this scholarship for the upcoming aid year:
Promise eligibility is a condition of this scholarship and requires full-time degree-pursuant coursework, students must meet those requirements to receive the WVU Pledge Scholarship. Exceptions would only be made in situations where students are not required to be full-time for Promise, such as their last two semesters of eligibility.
The WVU Pledge Scholarship operates as a last-dollar-in program, meaning the amount awarded will depend on the remaining billable charges after other financial aid programs have been applied-like the Federal Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), West Virginia Higher Education Grant, West Virginia Promise Scholarship and other institutional scholarships. The Pledge scholarship covers remaining costs of University Tuition, University Fees, College Tuition, and includes a standard amount for a double occupancy residence hall room and meal plan.
It is important to note that certain costs are not covered by the WVU Pledge Scholarship. Billable charges that are program-specific or incurred in addition to standard University fees, such as lab fees, music lesson fees, Online Learning Student Support fees, New Student Orientation fees, materials and instruments, computer costs, and student health insurance, will not be included in the scholarship coverage.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, the WVU Pledge Scholarship includes a standard amount for housing and meals, covering up to a double occupancy residence hall room and meal plan. The estimated costs are as follows:
While scholarship recipients are not required to select these standard options for housing and dining, any choice that exceeds the standard plan's cost will result in the scholarship covering only up to the value of the standard plan. The student will be responsible for paying the difference. Conversely, if a student opts for a housing or dining plan that costs less than the standard amount, the scholarship will be adjusted to reflect the actual charges incurred.
The FAFSA can be completed online via the Federal Student Aid website. To renew the WVU Pledge for the 2026-2027 academic year, current Pledge recipients should submit a valid 2026-2027 FAFSA by March 1, 2026.
