New students should apply for a Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) on the
Create an Account (FSA ID) webpage.
Both you and any required contributors must apply for separate FSA IDs.
The FSA ID is used to electronically consent to transfer income information from
the IRS, sign your
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), complete requirements for
federal student loans, apply for Federal PLUS Loans, and more!
October 1: The Promise Scholarship application opens for first-time
freshmen who are West Virginia residents. Additional information and submission
deadlines can be found on the
West Virginia Promise Scholarship website.
First-time freshmen should schedule ACT and/or SAT tests so scores can be received
as early as possible. The goal is to ensure the most up-to-date test information
is available on your WVU student record for scholarship consideration deadlines.
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) via the
Federal Student Aid FAFSA webpage. To receive the best financial aid offer
available to you, complete your FAFSA as early as possible. Sometimes additional
information or documents are needed, so you want to have as much time as possible
to take care of everything. If you are interested in any state or private aid
programs, check with the agency for application and deadline information.
Although the priority deadline is March 1, the sooner you submit your FAFSA,
the better! Sometimes additional information or documents are needed, so you
want to have as much time as possible to take care of everything.
Toward the middle of December, scholarship only offers may begin to admitted, domestic
first-time freshmen and first-time transfer students.
Begin to monitor your Financial Aid Information and your MIX email via your
WVU Portal for
unsatisfied requirements which could prevent your financial aid offer.
Use the
Cost and Resource Planner to plan for your estimated costs for the upcoming
fall and spring. The planner allows students and families to input their information
to determine potential costs as well as potential payment options.
