Submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your application for summer aid. For summer 2026, you should make sure you have a 2025-2026 and a 2026-2027 FAFSA submitted for maximum consideration. A separate summer application for aid is NOT REQUIRED!
We usually begin reviewing students for summer financial aid after summer registration in April. To save you time and effort, your eligibility for summer financial aid will automatically be reviewed if you meet the criteria listed below under the Eligible Students section. You will receive summer aid notifications to your MIX email (via your WVU Portal).

You will "automatically" be reviewed for summer financial aid eligibility if you meet ALL of the following criteria:
Exception: If you did not borrow subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans for the fall or spring semesters, you will not be automatically reviewed for these for summer. If this applies to you, after you enroll at least half-time in degree-pursuant courses for summer, you can submit an online request to the WVU Hub asking for summer loan consideration. Choose Current Student Inquiry and log in with your WVU username and password.
You will NOT be reviewed for summer financial aid eligibility if you meet any of the following criteria:
If you are seeking a degree from WVU but taking summer courses at another institution, complete the transient financial aid application process. If you are participating in a study abroad or exchange program for summer, visit our Study Abroad webpage for more information.
The Excel spreadsheets can help you estimate your potential cost of attendance for summer. Please note that books, course materials, supplies and equipment, housing and food costs (if living off campus), transportation, and personal expenses are estimated non billable (indirect) costs you may accrue during your summer enrollment. Only tuition and fees (and housing and food costs if living on campus) will show as charges to your student account for summer.
When you click on one of the links below, it will download an Excel spreadsheet to calculate estimated summer 2026 cost of attendance.

Financial aid that usually does not need to be repaid (such as grants and scholarships).
Financial aid that has to be repaid (loans). Summer eligibility for Federal Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Loans depends on federal annual limits and the amount already borrowed during Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026. The maximum annual limits may be found below.
Students can also review other financial aid resources in the list below for any additional options they may be eligible to receive.
Check your Financial Aid Information via your WVU Portal to calculate if you have already borrowed your annual limit in federal student loans. If you borrow the annual amount during fall and spring, you would not have loan eligibility remaining for summer.
